Global Citizenship Program (GCP)

Nurturing International Mindedness and Taking Action for Positive Change

In addition to a strong academic focus, Futuraskolan International School of Stockholm places great importance on providing a learning environment that nurtures values of international mindedness and global competence. International mindedness is being interested in other cultures and one’s own while welcoming diversity, collaboration, and other perspectives. Global Competence is being aware of, engaged in, or taking action on world issues as progressive, energetic, and respectful individuals. Our learners are empowered to take action to help others, raise awareness of global values, celebrate internationally recognized days and lead campaigns to support meaningful causes.

Our work in global citizenship is inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a planet-wide plan for peace and prosperity. We employ the Good Life Goals versions of the SDGs to help our younger learners engage with these seventeen goals for a better world.

With our partnerships with aid agencies and an international school in Greece, our 9th graders have the opportunity to travel to Athens, the seat of democracy, for intercultural exchange, democratic dialogue, humanitarian work and environmental programs. More locally, our learners help support Hands2Ocean and the work they are doing to clean up the waters around Stockholm, and our school community makes donations to support work that Stockholm Stadsmission is doing to help immigrants.

In summary, our Global Citizenship Program promotes a culture of international mindedness, activates the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), celebrates global values and internationally recognized days, runs campaigns for meaningful causes, builds partnerships, promotes environmental and sustainability values, and provides leadership opportunities for young people to take action for positive change.
